Furthermore, if you are approached by recovery scammers, make sure to enquire about how they obtained your information and note that any reports of fraud are legally protected and cannot be shared with anyone outside of law enforcement agencies.

2. Spot the signs

If an agency reaches out to you claiming to possess extensive knowledge about the funds you lost but demands payment beforehand, be wary. Authentic agencies never request fees to retrieve money lost to fraudsters. Additionally, if the agency contacts you through a web-based email address such as @yahoo.com, @gmail.com, @hotmail, etc, exercise caution. Genuine government or law enforcement agencies and law firms do not employ webmail accounts. It's important to remain vigilant and to take the necessary steps to protect yourself from potential scams.

3. How to report it

To report a potential scam, please contact 0300 123 2040. In case you have disclosed your bank account information to the scammers, it is crucial to inform your bank right away.
